The chef and restaurateur Peter Hoffman writes to say that his casual, Greenmarket-forward restaurantBack Fortyhas closed on Avenue B after seven years. The restaurant debuted in the fall of 2007 as a more casual offshoot of Savoy, Hoffman’s Soho bastion of Slow Food principles and grass-fed meats. Savoy itself closed and became anoutpost of Back Forty in 2012.
Hoffman says a “difficult landscape and lease uncertainty led to the decision” to shutter in Alphabet City, and the restaurant’s final night of service was Sunday. “We appreciate the support and loyalty of many of our customers and look forward to continuing to serve them at ourPrince Street location,” he writes.
