What to Eat at Cafe de la Esquina at Wythe Diner, Opening Monday

As mentioned, Cafe de la Esquina at Wythe Diner (henceforth to be known as “La Esquina Wiliamsburg”) is rolling out in stages, with Phase I ready to open Monday. Sure, the retro diner concept is cool, but what we’re most interested in is chef Akhtar Nawab’s menu, which covers the gamut of Mexican food, from taquitos to guisados (stewed meats) to mole. If it’s tacos you want, an attached taqueria with garden is slated for late this month, and beginning Friday, August 12, the café’s back dining room will begin serving chef’s special dinners (reservations available now). Scope out our slideshow to see dishes like “ceviche nuevo,” made with striped bass and hearts of palm, as well as a glimpse of the interior. Dinner will be served from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily, and weekend brunch should launch in September.
