Ace Hotel Co-founder Alex Calderwood Has Died

The 47-year-old hotelier wasfound deadlast Thursday afternoon in a room at London’s Ace Hotel. “Alex was our teacher, mentor, guru,” reads a short statement on the company’sTumblr, “and most importantly our dear friend.” The cause of death has not been reported. Calderwood, who called himself a “cultural engineer,” described his design style as spare with an element of “well-edited, carefully chosen clutter” in an interview withthe Cutin 2010.
